It gives me immense pleasure to be associated with Health League Hyderabad, an Institution of pre independence era, founded in 1944 by the then Kotwal of Hyderabad Shri Raja Bahadur Venkatram Reddy. Situated in the thickly populated and vibrant Sultan Bazar area, it not only adds vibrancy to the health but also enriches the mind and soul of the young and old alike with various cultural events. I am very proud of Capt Shantiswaroop Lele, who is the steering wheel behind this huge ship, maneuvering through big waves and storms, along the passage of time. He is the igniting light for his dynamic team. I congratulate him , under whose leadership Health League team has brought laurels Nationally and Internationally to the State of Telangana in sports events like Kho Kho, Rope/Pole Mallakhamb, Gymnasium and Yoga. Here, I would like to specially put down that no Institution/Academy has the expertise in Mallakhamb which Health League has and is on par with Maharashtriya Mandal Pune. Health League has added colours to the cosmopolitan city of Hyderabad by organizing various cultural events. Last but not the least, Health League has not shied away from philanthropic activities. My best wishes for the future endeavours of Health League to keep the flag high.

I took charge of my new responsibility at L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad ),as Chief Executive & Managing Director in September 2010. I had very soon an opportunity to get introduced to Capt.Shantiswaroop Lele. Through him, self and my wife Uma got introduced to Health League in Badichowdi. An Organization founded in 1944. Capt. Lele, having started taking his Sailing activity, much in the secondary role, started an active role in revitalizing almost defunct Health League. During my stay in Hyderabad till 2016 and even after that both of us had many occasions to visit and participate in various functions of the League. The transformation we noticed from our first visit to the League till now is phenomenal. Commencing sport activities and getting young boys and girls in good numbers to the playing field, especially in today’s world of Cell Phones, Social Media and Internet was not an easy task. It was possible due to the dedicated efforts of the revitalized managing committee under the leadership of Capt.Lele. Starting from sports like Kho-Kho, Pole Mallakamb and Rope Mallakamb today Health League boasts of revamped premises and a modern Gymnasium, Wash Rooms, Training in Self Defense, Training in Rhythmic Gymnastics as well. Health league in its new avatar now has brought many laurels by winning many awards at District, State and National level. This has made, not only the League but Telangana State as well, very proud. Health League also runs a primary school and arranges social activities mainly for Fund Raising. It also has become a place for many Senior Citizen to come and spend their morning and evening time in more fruitful activities to brighten life. In the short time Health League has risen to such high level, speaks volumes of efforts of likeminded and responsible Citizen to help build not only Physical Health of the local youth but build their character. Hyderabad city has turned into a concrete jungle,in good old days the city was encircled with lakes and good number of play grounds. The land sharks very fast swallowed the open places and now the city has left with very few play grounds. However one such playground existed in the heart of Sultanbazar/Badi Chawdi area of the city. Few health conscious and sports loving personalities took the possession of this piece of land and started health organization called Health League way back in 1944. Good activities of Indian sports like Kabbadi, Kho Kho, Atya Patya, Lejhim etc. started at the Health League. Merchant Navy Capt. Shantiswaroop Lele a sportsman himself with love for music, Drama and acting became the secretary of the organization in 2011. The disciplinarian Capt. Lele in a very short period brought Health League in proper perspective of sports and health related activities with the support of Shri Neil Gogte Director of KMIT and Senior Advocate Shri Sunil Ganu. Capt. Lele changed the entire outlook of the League. Gave a beautiful face lift to the ground by levelling it and brought very good sports coaches. Health League has almost monopolized the Malkhamb and today Health League Malkhamb team is bringing laurels to the State of Telangana in National Games. The Gymnasium of the League is another feather in the cap. The League is also running a Primary school for children from the nearby areas. Morning and evening the Health League ground is abuzz with at least 75/100 children daily and the atmosphere in the league is always charged with enthusiasm. “Catch them young” is the slogan which Capt. Lele is following in Letter and Spirit. I am very proud of the Health League and consider myself very fortunate to have close association with Health League. I wish Health League a very bright future in various Indian sports activities.

For decades now Health League has been doing yeoman service to underprivileged children, both boys and girls, by providing education and an opportunity to learn traditional games like Mallakhamb and Kho Kho. We have many, highly talented youth in our country, with a strong inclination to sports, but only those with a good financial background get a chance to play and stay fit. Fortunately, we also have institutions like Health League, who support students who do not have access to sports facilities. I am a big fan of theirs, as they encourage and train local youth in traditional Indian activities and sports. With meager financial funding, but tremendous enthusiasm and spirit, Health League is once again blossoming in to a sports, fitness and entertainment centre in the older part of Hyderabad. They deserve our full support.
